Full Job Description

  • Embed engineering ownership of food safety and hygienic design, ensuring compliance with Asset Care Performance Model
  • standards.
  • Maintain assets and facilities to minimise contamination and foreign body risks, with verified and documented controls.
  • Own GMP compliance for all engineering work, including line release and product protection before/after maintenance.
  • Ensure utilities (refrigeration, air, water, etc.) meet legal and food safety standards.
  • Maintain audit readiness through up-to-date records, SOPs, and risk assessments.
  • Promote a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with legislation and HSE standards.
  • Enforce safe systems of work, permit controls, and contractor management.
  • Maintain statutory compliance for all engineering systems and equipment.
  • Investigate incidents using root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Drive environmental improvements to reduce energy use, waste, and impact.
  • Ensure accurate CMMS usage, maintaining asset history, work orders, and data integrity.
  • Deliver a preventative maintenance programme aligned to asset criticality and adherence targets.
  • Manage reactive maintenance and escalation, addressing root causes.
  • Lead downtime analysis to improve OEE and reduce waste.
  • Support new equipment integration and continuous asset care improvement.
  • Manage engineering budgets, contractor spend, and spares inventory efficiently.
  • Support capital projects, applying lifecycle cost principles and post-implementation reviews.
  • Plan engineering resources to meet operational needs, including shifts and call-outs.
  • Conduct performance reviews, skills gap analysis, and structured training.
  • Ensure effective onboarding and promote a high-performance, accountable team culture.
  • Ensure compliance with governance standards, documentation, and audit requirements.
  • Lead daily engineering reviews and effective shift handovers.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and apply Management of Change processes.

  • HNC/HND or degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline) or equivalent experience.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH qualification desirable.
  • Project management training or certification advantageous.
  • Experience
  • Proven engineering leadership experience within manufacturing, preferably food or FMCG.
  • Demonstrated success in improving equipment reliability, planned maintenance adherence, and CMMS compliance.
  • Experience managing engineering budgets, stock control, and contractor performance.
  • Familiarity with capital project delivery, governance processes, and audit compliance.
