Maintenance Assistant

The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical and mechanical engineers, creative building craftsperson, and dedicated support staff. We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Maintenance Assistant to join us. You should be experienced in general property maintenance, groundskeeping, and/or handyman duties., This is a highly rewarding role. Working under the relevant Estates Officer, the successful candidate will embark on a challenging adventure, safely, efficiently, and with patient and staff safety at the heart of their focus. Working as part of a team, and individually, you will be required to carry out semi-skilled maintenance work within acute and community NHS properties. You will support and assist trade staff to undertake routine maintenance, fault finding/repair, and installation work to allow a safe and fit for purpose environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The successful candidate must be able to self-motivate, work relatively unsupervised, and be a good communicator. A healthcare background would be advantageous but not essential - as specific training will be provided. There are also opportunities to train as a tradesperson and gain a full trade apprenticeship over time. This post is based at Furness General Hospital.

• Sound academic qualifications.
• NVQ level 2 or other recognised foundation qualification in maintenance.
• Driving licence (B+E)
Desirable criteria
• Portable Appliance Testing Qualification.
• Risk Assessment Certificate, Demonstrate previous experience in a maintenance support role within an engineering or building field., Be able to demonstrate an ability to manage priorities under pressure.
• Ability to comply with the Trust's policies.
• Ability to travel between the Trust sites as required
• To demonstrate flexibility in approach to work patterns., Proven ability to adapt to change and new ideas, knowledge and skills.
• Ability to deal with information sensitively and confidentially.
• Ability to work as part of a team but must be able to work unsupervised.
• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with other members of the department, other (non-technical) Trust staff, patients, visitors.
