Full Job Description

If you are an experienced oncology or respiratory nurse looking to expand your autonomous practice this is a great opportunity to develop within a specialist lung cancer CNS role.

The role of Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals diagnosed with lung cancer across inpatient and outpatient settings. The post holder provides expert clinical advice, support, and coordination throughout the patient pathway, ensuring that care is holistic, individualised, and aligned with local and national cancer targets.

Acting as a key worker, the CNS ensures continuity of care, advocates for patients and their families, and works collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to optimise patient outcomes and experience. The role also encompasses leadership, education, audit, and service development, contributing to continuous improvement and innovation in cancer care., The post holder is responsible for delivering specialist nursing care and support to patients with lung cancer, ensuring their physical, emotional, and informational needs are met throughout their journey. This includes acting as a key worker for a defined caseload, coordinating care, and maintaining effective communication between patients, families, and the wider MDT.

Key duties include contributing to the effective functioning of MDT meetings, supporting cancer pathway management, and ensuring compliance with cancer waiting time targets. The CNS also provides expert advice and education to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals, acting as a specialist resource within the organisation and beyond.

In addition, the role involves participating in audit, research, and service evaluation, promoting evidence-based practice, and contributing to the development of clinical guidelines and policies. The post holder will also support service improvement initiatives and help enhance patient experience across the cancer pathway.
