Full Job Description
To work as part of a team of adults including teachers and other support staff, to ensure that all children are safe and feel safe, to promote the learning and well-being of all pupils; to take responsibility for the supervision, health and safety, well-being and control of pupils during the midday break both during dining and play.
Reporting to the Senior Lunchtime Supervisor, each Lunchtime Supervisor is responsible to the Senior Lunchtime Supervisor for the effective supervision of the children in and about the premises of the Academy during the midday break (11.30-1.30pm).
The Lunchtime Supervisors will work together as a team sharing responsibility for effective supervision of children during the lunchtime period.
The team will agree the necessary duties and rotas required to ensure adequate supervision.
Where issues arise, which cannot be resolved or agreed by the team the matter shall be brought to the attention of the Senior Lunchtime Supervisor or Principal who will make a decision and act accordingly.
The Lunchtime Supervisor shall work a number of hours determined by the Principal and specified within their contract of employment. This will normally be 2 hours per day.
Duties
· To set up hall for lunchtime at start of shift and after lunch service put away tables, clean area and ensure hall is tidy at the end of lunchtime.
· To supervise children in the lunchtime period (11.45- 1.15 pm) in the dining area, play areas and Academy premises, on a rota basis.
· To help children get their food, find a place to sit and eat their food in a comfortable, clean and friendly environment.
· To engage and interact with children in an appropriate and purposeful playtime activity on the playground, or the classroom if circumstances dictate.
· To assist the kitchen staff in clearing the dining area for the afternoon teaching session.
· To cooperate and communicate with the other Lunchtime Supervisors so that rotas and duties are fairly shared and that there is consistency in our approach to children and towards behaviour.
· To be equally and jointly responsible for the behaviour of children during the midday break including dealing with incidents of unruly or anti-social behaviour and to inform class teachers about children in their class if there are concerns or in order to enlist support.
· To report to the Senior Lunchtime Supervisor when the behaviour of an individual or group of children causes particular or frequent concern or where an incident cannot be happily and fairly resolved.
· To report to the Senior Lunchtime Supervisor any incidence of bullying, discrimination or racist behaviour. Reporting involves collecting as much information as possible about the incident, and reporting it as fully as possible for investigation and action.
· To ensure that Health and Safety procedures are followed including:
Ø reporting any hazards to the Site Supervisor
Ø recording accidents and injuries in the accident book in medical room
Ø attending to sick or injured children and then
Ø referring accidents or injuries to children to the designated First Aiders
· To monitor the presence of adults in the Academy and grounds and ensure that persons on the premises, without permission or appointments are attended to.
· To receive information from the Inclusion & Attendance Manager about the special needs of individual children and to offer appropriate and sensitive support as advised.
· To work in a way which promotes the Academy equality policies including respecting individual differences, treating all individuals with respect and fairness and ensuring that each individual is free from teasing, discrimination, bullying and harassment because of their differences.
