Full Job Description

Southend-on-Sea City Council is seeking a proactive and motivated Logistics Lead to join our Equipment Service on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in a service that supports some of the city's most vulnerable residents by ensuring the timely delivery, collection, maintenance and exchange of essential community equipment. As Logistics Lead, you will be at the heart of a fast-paced and rewarding operation, leading a skilled team of drivers, technicians and support staff to deliver an efficient, responsive and customer-focused service. Every day brings new challenges, from coordinating urgent equipment deliveries that enable residents to remain independent in their own homes, to identifying improvements that enhance the effectiveness of the service. Working closely with the Equipment Service Team Manager and other service leads, you will take ownership of the day-to-day logistics operation, ensuring resources are used effectively, performance targets are achieved, and residents receive a high-quality service. You will lead route planning, manage workloads and respond to operational challenges, while fostering a positive and supportive team culture. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will supervise and support both the Logistics and Administration Teams, providing day-to-day guidance, conducting regular one-to-one meetings, managing staffing arrangements and helping colleagues develop their skills and confidence. You will also promote a strong health and safety culture and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures. We are looking for someone who enjoys finding solutions, improving processes and leading people. You will use performance data and operational insight to identify trends, drive efficiencies and deliver meaningful service improvements. You will also take the lead on resolving operational issues and complaints, ensuring a positive outcome for residents wherever possible. What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you must, Your application will not be considered if you do not hold GCSEs in English and Maths (Level 4 or above), and ideally a relevant business, supply chain, or logistics qualification to support your professional expertise.
