Locum Consultant Psychiatrist - Old Age Psychiatry, Swindon

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the Hospital Liaison Psychiatry Service and Care Home Liaison Service in Swindon for a period of 6 months starting from May 2026. This post will be ideal for portfolio pathway applicants in old age psychiatry who would like to gather evidence for their portfolio application. The postholder will support the old age psychiatry hospital liaison service and Care Home Liaison Service in Swindon. The Great Western Hospital will be the District General Hospital where the post holder will provide Consultation Liaison. The post holder will be based in Victoria Centre in Swindon which is within the Great Western Hospital Campus and is part of Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust. The post holder will also support the Care Home Liaison Service which is based in The Victoria Centre. The post holder will have the support of MDT of both teams. This post will also be supported by a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist for portfolio pathway
application guidance., As the post holder, the duties will include;

Assessment and management of in-patients with complex health care needs including comorbid physical and psychiatric illnesswithin Great Western Hospital, Swindon

The post holder will assume Responsible Clinician (RC) status for inpatientswithin Great Western Hospital, Swindon and subject to the Mental Health Act 1983 amended 2007.

Participation in Mental Health Act assessments in both the emergency Department and patients admitted to the wards in the hospital. Since this is a part of agreed clinical responsibilities, the post holder will not claim assessment fees for patients seen at the premises of GWH within normal working hours.

Rapid assessment and treatment when required for patients presenting at ED.
