Locum Consultant Paediatrician

· Ability to deliver a Consultant of the Week service on the children's inpatient unit and Children's Emergency Department, 4/5 times in 12 months.

· To participate in the general paediatric acute on call 1 in 6 weekends and 1 in 12 weekdays.

· General Paediatric clinics and ward rounds.

· Clinical and educational supervision of paediatric trainees.

· Enthusiasm and ability to participate in the delivery of medical education and audit within the department.

· Weekly diabetes clinic.

University Hospital is the main clinical teaching hospital for Warwick University Medical School. This is an extremely well equipped 1200 bed teaching hospital, containing all medical and surgical specialities and is a designated major trauma centre including a helicopter emergency service.

The successful candidate will join a forward-thinking and dynamic team of 15 paediatricians. University hospital has one of the largest paediatric units in the West Midlands. We provide general paediatric care to a child population of 65,000 within Coventry and work in partnership with local trusts to provide Paediatric and some subspecialist care to children from Warwickshire and neighbouring counties. We have more than 35,000 attendances at the Children's Emergency Department, over 4500 acute admissions and over 12,000 outpatient attendances annually.

The successful post holder will work on the general paediatric service and on-call rotas; leading general paediatric, diabetes and weight management clinics. Whilst also contributing to the care of the medical patients attending the Children's Emergency Department. The post will also include the leadership of Clinical Audit within the department., This is a full-time 10 PA NHS post for a Locum Consultant in General Paediatric Medicine with an interest in Diabetes, located within the Women's and Children's Department of University Hospital, Coventry.

The post holder will join the team of 15 paediatric consultants and will contribute to the delivery and organisation of the paediatric service, participating in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and service developments for the population of Coventry and Warwickshire.

The Women and Children's Group comprises of Paediatrics, Neonatology, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Midwifery, Feto-maternal medicine, Reproductive medicine, and Gynae-Oncology. The Children's Emergency Department is jointly managed by Paediatrics and Emergency medicine. Services are provided on two sites: University Hospital, Coventry and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby.
