Full Job Description

This is Locum post which will enhance the current establishment of NHS and academic staff of the Department of Ophthalmology, Alliance Hospitals and community practices. The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team. Opportunity for permanent position post 12 month fixed term pending consultant application and interviews. The appointee will have a principle interest in Cornea, Corneal Graft operating and they will be expected to contribute to the Corneal service on the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital site (including the East Midlands Planned Care Centre EMPCC) and associated community hospitals or GP practices. Participation on the on call rota and in the eye casualty department is essential. Please note, the job description contains an illustrative job plan, and the final timetable will be discussed and agreed upon on appointment. We suggest as a service you do come and take a tour of the department before interview.Main duties of the job Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients. To share with colleagues responsibility for the day to day management of patients. To promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that the services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community. Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences. Supervise and train junior medical staff. To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors. Teaching, research and administration. To proactively develop the service To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit. The appointee will join an active and enthusiastic team of 30 Ophthalmologists who work at the Leicester Royal infirmary, Leicester General Hospital (incl. EMPCC), community hospitals and GP practice sites including Loughborough, Hinckley, Coalville, Melton, Market Harborough, Oakham, and Earl Shilton. The Ophthalmology Service in UHL is currently providing patient care specialising in the areas of Medical retina, Uveitis, Oculoplastic, Lacrimal, Cornea, Glaucoma, Vitreoretinal surgery, Neuro Ophthalmology and Paediatric Ophthalmology. Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training.
