Locum Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH). This new locum post, pending recruitment to a substantive position, has a 10 PA job plan.

The successful candidate will join a busy Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department providing services across Oxfordshire and contributing to the 1 in 10 on-call rota for the wider Thames Valley. OUH is the designated Major Trauma Centre for the Thames Valley Trauma Network.

This post has been created to increase consultant capacity and support the additional operating provision within the new Surgical Elective Centre (SEC) at the John Radcliffe Hospital, due to open in summer 2026. The SEC will include seven operating theatres, including two hybrid theatres, and will increase capacity for planned surgery, supporting patients across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

Applicants must hold full or temporary GMC registration and be on, or within six months of eligibility for inclusion on, the GMC Specialist Register in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The contract will be held with OUH; however, the post holder may be required to work across Trust sites and peripheral units to meet service needs. Participation in the on-call rota is required., The successful candidate will be expected to be part of the team delivering general OMFS services.

The postholder's duties will be based mainly at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, although there may be a requirement to visit other hospitals within the trust (Churchill Hospital, Oxford, Nuffield Centre for Orthopaedics, Oxford and Horton Hospital, Banbury) or to some of the other hospitals within the Thames Valley in Buckinghamshire, Berkshire or Wiltshire. It is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations

The postholder will be expected to actively participate in the supervision and training of Specialist Registrars, Foundation year doctors, Dental Core trainees and Dental SHO's.

The post holder is expected to work with consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service, achieving compliance with 18 weeks and other targets set by the Trusts and nationally.

The post-holder will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust.

He/she will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients, and the running of his/her clinical service under the direction of the lead clinician and/or directorate chair.
