Full Job Description

We are looking for an 8PA locum consultant with an interest in Haemophilia and Thrombosis to cover a 12 month fixed term period of maternity leave. They would join our enthusiastic team to develop integrated Haematology services for the acute hospitals, community hospitals and primary care in Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The role would provide specialist care of patients with inherited bleeding disorders across the Southern Haemophilia Network as well as general non-malignant Haematology laboratory and clinical care.

The post will be primarily based on the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital site but outreach clinics and travel to other hospitals within the Southern Haemophilia Network may be required.

Applicants must be on the GMC register and within 6 months of completion of their CCT at time of interview., The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. The post holder will provide continuing responsibility for patients in their charge and in partnership with colleagues working for the proper function of the department., This is a joint post across Haemophilia and Thrombosis (0.6) and general Haematology (0.4). The post holder will help to shape the role, but it is expected that they will concentrate on the non-malignant general Haematology under a dedicated consultant. This will allow the remaining consultant body to focus on the increasing demands of inpatient and outpatient haemato-oncology services and the implementation of the autologous stem cell project.

The post holder is required to hold a CCT or equivalent in Clinical Haematology. The post holder should therefore be trained in all aspects of clinical and laboratory Haematology. The post holder should be fully committed to the provision of a high-quality Haematology service to the trust and the community as part of the Haematology department.

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.

We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.

The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors. The Council of Governors represent the interests of their constituencies and influence the future plans of the Foundation Trust.
