Locum Consultant in General Surgery with Colorectal Interest

Fixed term 6 month contract General Surgeon with Colorectal interest, on call commitments to help with on call and waiting list management. General Surgery and colorectal experience is required and specific training in the specialties of Upper GI or Breast would be welcomed. There will be an average of 9 Programmed Activities of Direct Clinical Care, with the remainder being allocated for Supporting Professional and/or other Activities. The purpose of the role is replacement in order to maintain clinical activities.

As a senior employee of the Trust, you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following: -

oThe provision of a first-class clinical service

oEffective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty

oSustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with King's College London

oUndertaking all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies

oConducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's service plans

oMaintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Division or the Trust, The remit of the postholder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for surgery patients and to provide and develop services for King's surgical patients. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.

It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the development and delivery of aspects of surgical services depending upon their interests and experience.

General Surgery is part of the Surgery, Theatres and Anaesthetics Care Group. The Department of General surgery is based at the Princess Royal University Hospital with some clinical activities at Beckenham Beacon and Orpington. The outpatient and administrative functions for the surgical team are based at Princess Royal University Hospital.

The Clinical Director (CD) of Surgery Theatres & Anaesthetics (Dr Swinda Esprit) is responsible for strategic direction and oversight of the care group.

The care group triumvirate consists of General Manager (Fawez Molotoo) Head of Nursing (Anna Ferrer) and the Clinical Director (Dr Swinda Esprit). There are 4 Clinical Leads within the Care Group (General Surgery, ENT, Pain and Anaesthetics).
