Full Job Description

The post holder will be accountable to the Clinical Lead for General Clinical Genetics and to the Head of Service.

The Genetics Centre at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Trust is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, forward-thinking colleague to join a dynamic and growing Consultant team. The post is fixed term for 12 months, on the ground of a career break of 2 established Consultants of the Department.

You should ideally have extensive clinical, training, and teaching experience in General Clinical Genetics. In line with NHS England ambitions, the department is working in progressively and strategically integrating genomics across the organisation. There might be opportunities for the successful candidate to work in an area of special interest, so to continue to build on the experience they have already mastered, in an area of interest which preferably, but not exclusively, complements departmental existing strengths.

We expect the successful candidate to demonstrate a well-rounded clinical and teaching experience in general genetics and genomics, and deliver a high-quality clinical work in outpatient and in-patient setting, as well as to participate in, mainly virtual, multidisciplinary team working.

The successful candidate will join a highly motivated, enthusiastic, innovation favouring, friendly and supportive team.

The Clinical Genetics Department at Guy's has a reputation for delivering innovative, fully integrated clinical and laboratory services based on one site and benefiting from close links with many specialties and extensive research groups. We provide complex, multidisciplinary, highly specialised management clinics (NF1, NF2, BBS, HD, VHL, XP, CS/TTD) and have a national and internationally recognised expertise with award winning teams. The Clinical Genetics Department is pioneering translational research in rare diseases through conducting clinical trials. We have indeed an extensive portfolio of trials, both commercial and non-commercial, run jointly with the Evelina London Children's Hospital Paediatric research team and the NIHR. We have also established Telemedicine clinics and virtual multidisciplinary meetings.

We are national leaders in the diagnosis and management of the care of several medical conditions. We have particular expertise in rare disease genomics, dysmorphology, cancer, neurology, skeletal dysplasias, cardiology, renal disorders, foetal medicine, preimplantation genetic diagnosis and genetic counselling.
