Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking to appointa 12 month maternity leave cover Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicineto join theUrgent & Emergency Care Directorate, working at Charing Cross Hospital. The role will commence from 1st October 2026. This post offers the opportunity to practise Emergency Medicine at scale within one of the UK's leading Academic Health Science Centres, delivering high-quality care to diverse patient populations in a Type 1 Emergency Department. The role is predominantly clinical, providing senior clinical leadership and decision-making within busy emergency departments, while also offering protected non-clinical time to support professional development. Consultants are encouraged to develop interests aligned to service needs and personal career goals, including education, quality improvement, leadership, research, frailty, mental health, major trauma or same-day emergency care. Posts may be based at a single site or include cross-site working by agreement, supported through annual team job planning. Clinical responsibilities include:

• Delivering senior decision-making across the full range of emergency presentations
• Providing visible clinical leadership in resuscitation, majors, rapid assessment and SDEC areas
• Supporting patient flow, clinical prioritisation and risk management

• Teaching, supervising and supporting junior doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team
• Contributing to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and patient safety activity
• Supporting service development, innovation and transformation within Emergency Medicine
