Full Job Description

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, for a fixed-term contract for one year. We have 3x 10PA positions (full-time) and 1x 8PA position. Adult EM consultants are invited to apply. Candidates will be expected to work in both adults and in the paediatric Emergency Department. The candidate will work weekdays, evening shifts and be part of a 1 in 7 weekend on-call rota. Consultants participate in self-rostering to maximise their work-life balance. The post is designed to address the service demand of a busy specialist teaching hospital. The Emergency Department is at the forefront of urgent and Emergency Care within our Trust and constantly reviews and updates it processes; whilst introducing the latest technology to support efficiency. We have developed new ways of working across the whole of our acute care service, using internally developed QI methodology. Robust planning and Trust support to the ED has enabled transformation of workflows. We are looking for innovative, dynamic individuals to help develop and deliver a world class care service to our patients alongside the highly competent team in our department. We welcome candidates who are on the GMC Specialist Register as Emergency Medicine Consultants. We will welcome holders with other sub-specialty interests within Emergency medicine including research to apply for the position., In conjunction with the existing consultants to organize the reception, resuscitation, investigation, diagnosis and initial treatment of all patients.

  • To ensure the successful operation of agreed policies, procedures and guidelines in the treatment and management of patients in the two departments.
  • To help construct policies, procedures and guidelines for the successful and efficient operation of the department. It is accepted that these policies will have to be reviewed and changed on a regular basis. All consultants will be expected to have equal input into this.
  • With the existing consultants to help to continue to develop and implement medical audit and carry forward the trust clinical governance agenda under the guidance of the Governance Lead.
  • Consultants will work closely to develop an agreed rota to ensure an appropriate level of clinical input at consultant level and in conjunction with existing consultants to organise duties.
  • The post holders will participate in the on-call rota (including prospective cover) covering Royal Free ED out of hours.
  • The post holders will work scheduled weekends (prospectively covered).
  • All ED consultants will be on a rota as designated medical controller in relation to the hospital's Major Incident Procedure. The Major Incident Procedure plans are being constantly updated and all consultants will be expected to take part in any amendments that might be necessary., + You must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom or meet the criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route.
