Full Job Description

  • To provide Consultant Anaesthetic cover for Cardiac and Cardiology anaesthesia, elective and emergency surgery at UHL including preoperative assessment and postoperative care.
  • To participate in an Anaesthetic On-Call Rota and/or weekend emergency or trauma cover.
  • To support the provision of consultant delivered perioperative care.
  • Deliver a high quality anaesthetic service, supporting the department with a positive attitude towards flexible working.
  • Supervise and train junior Anaesthetists.
  • Work with the acute pain team to provide safe and effective postoperative analgesia to patients.
  • Take part in pre assessment and high risk clinics.
  • Teaching Post-graduate and under-graduate, research and administration.
  • Work with the Clinical Governance team to enhance patient safety.
  • To work flexibly to help cover the workload of the CMG.

    • Applications are invited for enthusiastic and highly motivated Locum Consultants in Anaesthesia to join our team at Glenfield Hospital within the University Hospitals of Leicester. The Glenfield hospital is renowned for Cardiac, Cardiology, ECMO and Thoracic services. In addition, elective and emergency theatres support vascular, urology, hepatobiliary, renal transplant and breast specialties, Glenfield Hospital, one of the largest cardiac center's in the country performing approximately 1000 cases a year, is a tertiary referral centre for complex aortic surgery, on and off pump grafts, valve surgeries including a mini-mitral service and adult congenital cardiac disease. The case mix is complex and reviewed by a MDT team consisting of surgeons, anaesthetists and intensivists. MDT discussions are supported by high risk assessment clinics in both cardiac surgery and cardiology. This is a full time post for 12 month, many of our previous post holders have proceeded to a substantive position. within the Trust, Our new strategy, 'Leading in healthcare, trusted in communities' was developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners and is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
