Full Job Description

The Department of Respiratory Medicine is seeking a 6 month fixed term full-time (10 PA) Locum Consultant to join our dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team.

The postholder will join the core team of consultants providing specialist respiratory services, general respiratory clinics, general internal medicine and respiratory medicine in-patient care and flexible diagnostic bronchoscopy., The postholder will work within the Severe Asthma service offering in-patient reviews and specialist outpatient clinics for patients with asthma. The Asthma team is led by Professor David Jackson, together with Consultant colleagues Dr Alexandra Nanzer-Kelly and Dr Jai Dhariwal, and Dr Grainne D'Ancona (Consultant Pharmacist), and the Asthma multidisciplinary team including dedicated asthma Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physiotherapists, Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Fellows and Resident doctors.

The respiratory medicine team serves the local population of Lambeth and Southwark, which have high deprivation and smoking rates, and high premature mortality due to respiratory disease. The local population consists of around 600,000 people, served by the SE London ICB and two large teaching hospitals within an Academic Health Sciences Centre (King's Health Partners). In addition, respiratory medicine (assisted by thoracic surgery) provides tertiary services for patients across South East London, Kent, Surrey & Sussex that include linear & radial EBUS, interventional & navigational bronchoscopy and pleural services.

The Directorate of Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care and Sleep based at Guy's and St Thomas' (forming part of the GSTT Heart Lung and Critical Care Clinical Group) is committed to delivering excellent patient care whilst meeting the Government targets for A&E waiting times, cancer and 18 weeks. Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals joined Guy's and St Thomas' in February 2021 and is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK and among the largest in Europe. We provide treatment for people with heart and lung disease, including rare and complex conditions, offering some of the most sophisticated treatment that is available anywhere in the world.
