An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and dynamic individual to apply for post of Locum Consultant in Acute and General Paediatrician with interest in Nephrology.
University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) NHS Trust provides acute and specialist paediatric services for Leicester and the surrounding hospitals in the East Midlands including: Nephrology, Urology, Allergy, Congenital Heart Disease, Endocrinology, ENT, Gastroenterology, Haematology, Infectious Diseases, Neurology, NICU, Oncology, Paediatric Surgery, PICU, and Respiratory Medicine.
The post offers the opportunity to contribute to a large and well-established paediatric service, supporting both acute general paediatric care and specialist nephrology services within a multidisciplinary team., The post holder will join the Paediatric Consultant team providing secondary and tertiary level paediatric services to children in Leicester. The post holder will be part of the general paediatric team but will have an important role in the Paediatric Nephrology services provided at University Hospitals of Leicester in conjunction with East Midlands East of England and South Yorkshire (EMEESY) renal network based at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham.
The EMEESY Children's Kidney Network provides specialist nephrology and urology care to children and young people with kidney problems throughout the East Midlands (EM), the East of England (EE) and South Yorkshire (SY), hence EMEESY. Highly specialised care such as dialysis, transplant and renal biopsies are performed in Nottingham to maintain expertise.
The post holder will supervise the inpatient care of renal patients with input from the ward team and Consultant of the Week. They will be expected to link with relevant local services such as urology, antenatal counselling, cardiology, PICU as needed.
Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training. The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.

https://www.uhleicester.nhs.uk, + To contribute to the provision of the Acute and General Paediatric service as well as secondary Paediatric Nephrology services, which includes:
o Outpatient clinics
o Participate in the consultant cover and service provision for the General Paediatric Service including the Consultant of the week day time rota.
o Participate in the consultant cover and service provision for the Paediatric Nephrology Service including the ward cover as needed.
o Participate in the General Paediatric Consultant on-call service. This includes 24-7 out-of-hours cover for the Childrens Hospital.
o Promote and strengthen links with colleagues Primary Care, including GPs and AHPs
o Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
o To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients.
The successful candidate will work with an experienced Associate Specialist and specialist nurse based at Leicester.
There is a formal agreement between Nottingham University Hospital and University Hospitals of Leicester to provide the Leicester Paediatric Nephrology Service with a NUH link consultant that attend clinics and covers inpatient work at Leicester, providing additional support. The post holder will be provided with a number of CPD opportunities via MT meetings i.e Biopsy or MDT x-ray meetings.
In addition the post holder will be work closely with the general paediatric team as well as relevant Heads of Service and General Managers
o To promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
o Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
o Supervise and train junior medical staff
o To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
o Teaching, research and administration.
o To proactively develop the service.
o To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.
The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
