Full Job Description
The Locum Consultant Cardiac, Thoracic and Tracheal Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) will play a key role within a nationally and internationally renowned paediatric quaternary service, delivering highly specialised surgical care to children with complex cardiac, thoracic and airway conditions. Working as part of a multidisciplinary consultant team, the post holder will contribute to complex elective and emergency surgical activity, including tracheal surgery, thoracic procedures, transplantation, ECMO and mechanical circulatory support, while participating in regular ward rounds, outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings. The role carries significant responsibility for clinical leadership, service development, education and training, governance and quality improvement, with opportunities to engage in academic research through GOSH and the UCL Institute of Child Health. The successful candidate will demonstrate clinical excellence, collaborative working, and a
commitment to patient-centred care in line with the Trust's Always Values, helping to further develop a world-class paediatric cardiothoracic and tracheal surgery service., The main duties of the Locum Consultant Cardiac, Thoracic and Tracheal Surgeon include providing consultant-level surgical care for children with complex cardiac, thoracic and airway conditions, including undertaking elective and emergency cardiac, thoracic and tracheal procedures, lung transplantation, ECMO support, VAD activity and participation in specialist on-call rotas. The post holder will lead and contribute to daily consultant ward rounds, outpatient tracheal and thoracic clinics, multidisciplinary team meetings and joint operating, ensuring safe, evidence-based and family-centred care. They will work closely with a wide range of clinical and non-clinical colleagues to coordinate complex patient pathways, contribute to service development and innovation within a world-class quaternary service, and support education, training, audit, governance and research activities. The role also carries responsibility for clinical leadership, mentoring junior staff, maintaining professional
standards and actively contributing to the effective management and ongoing improvement of the cardiothoracic and tracheal surgery service in line with Trust values and priorities.
