An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Trust for a floating fixed-term Locally Employed Doctor to support with a vacancy on the rotations for a period of 6 months, in the first instance. We are looking to recruit a versatile and adaptable individual to join the teams in West Kent or East Kent. As a floating member of team you can be deployed into a 6 month vacancy within Kent in line with the rotation dates, therefore a flexible and adaptable approach is essential. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to gain relevant psychiatry experience at resident doctor level in order to support an application for the training scheme or a career grade role. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic individual who works to the highest standards, is able to think autonomously and work as part of a multidisciplinary team. The post-holder will be required to:

  • Apply the principles of philosophy and strategy which guides the Psychiatry Service
  • To develop and hold an appropriate caseload, under supervision of the consultant
  • Take full histories, including a mental state examination, and conducting physical examination focusing in particular on the central nervous system.
  • Summarise the history; making diagnosis; and making a care plan, jointly with the other members of the MDT.
  • Request appropriate laboratory investigations and ensuring that the results are documented in the notes, and appropriately managed
  • Take corroborative history from the relatives and arranging family meetings in relation to the management of patients and in respect of future management of the patients
  • Work collaboratively with a range of professionals across various partner organisations to provide holistic care to patients
  • Participate in ward rounds, and CPA meetings on the ward
  • Participate in MDT, CPA, adult protection and safeguarding, and professional meetings in the community
  • Keep accurate appropriate and up-to-date medical and administrative documentation records. The Trust uses the RIO system, training in and using the system is mandatory
  • To provide guidance and support to newly appointed and less experienced medical colleagues.

We are Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust. We care for the mental health and wellbeing of people across Kent and Medway and are rated 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
  • Our teams support children, young people and adults with a wide range of mental health needs. We also provide specialist services, including all-age eating disorder services and neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people, such as autism and ADHD. Because we work across the whole county and across hospital and community settings, we can make care more joined up and easier to access for the people we serve. Our vision is simple: we are here to help communities not just live with mental illness, but live well. It's why we're passionate about working with communities to make mental health care better for everyone. Everything we do is guided by our values: caring, inclusive, curious and confident. Join us if you share our passion for better mental health care and want to be part of a team that's working well together.
