Full Job Description

We're looking for a journalist to join the team at BBC Hereford & Worcester. As part of the Local Story Team, you'll help shape our coverage across online, radio, social media and TV, ensuring our best stories reach audiences wherever they are. Your day-to-day could involve writing a story for online, shooting a clip for TV, sourcing visuals for social media, or going live on radio. As well as responding to breaking news, you'll be expected to bring in your own ideas and produce strong, original journalism that can lead output across multiple BBC platforms. You'll work closely with colleagues across BBC Online, BBC Hereford & Worcester and Midlands Today, helping to keep everyone updated with new lines and the strongest developments. WHY JOIN THE TEAM You'll join a newsroom that prides itself on high quality journalism rooted in local communities. This role offers genuine variety, the chance to work across multiple modes, and the opportunity to develop a wide mix of production, reporting and digital skills. Your Key Responsibilities and Impact

  • Report and produce stories for TV, radio, online and social platforms using strong editorial judgment.
  • Research, film, record, write and edit content to a high professional standard across video, audio and digital tools.
  • Present live or pre-recorded content when required, including occasional bulletin reading.
  • Bring in original story ideas and shape them appropriately for different audiences and BBC outputs.
  • Work closely with colleagues across teams and platforms to share information, avoid duplication and uphold best practice.
  • Lead on specific stories or projects when needed, planning and prioritising work effectively to meet tight deadlines.
  • Support the Local Story Team with additional tasks, including bulletin reading when needed

Significant recent experience in broadcast news journalism, with strong editorial judgement and a clear understanding of the BBC's news priorities and audience needs.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to generate original, creative story ideas suitable for radio, TV, online and social platforms.
  • Confident using social media, with a good understanding of how different platforms can be used effectively to reach and engage local audiences.
  • Strong video and audio production skills, including filming, recording, editing and assembling content to a high standard.
  • Ability to perform live in fast-paced, pressurised environments, with experience of live broadcasting
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across BBC teams.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential, as the role requires travel to parts of Herefordshire and Worcestershire where no alternative transport is available
