Full Job Description

Each town will have a video editor and a newsletter editor, working together and independently to deliver weekly content across Beehiiv, Tik Tok and Instagram.

You'll be the voice and face of Beacon in your town, in people's inboxes and group chats - writing the weekly newsletter (and occasional sponsored content) that makes someone feel like a proper local, not a tourist, in their own town.

You'll work alongside the central team on paid opportunities, cross network ideas and share what's working with our network of other editors.

Key Responsibilities

Newsletter Editing / Community Building

Drafting and sending our weekly templated newsletter covering local news, culture and things to do that people actually want to read. Respond to replies and act as the trusted local voice.Help us grow our community in each town by being the voice and face of our local team, attending events, liaising with community groups and cultural stakeholders and having your finger on the pulse of what is going on.

We're looking for people who have some experience in published writing, presenting or journalism - whether that's online, in print or on social.

You should have a warm, distinctive writing voice and an instinct for what a local audience actually wants to read - not just what's newsworthy, but what's useful and fun. Experience running a newsletter, working for a local media platform, magazine or newspaper is a plus.

You're a self-starter who's always got an idea for what should go in this week's edition and is willing to put in the work to bring it to life. One day you're writing about the best things to do with the weekend, the next you're finding out if the local chippy wants to partner with you.

You're not afraid to get out there and speak to people, immersing yourself in the local community and showcasing everything brilliant about where you live. You don't have to start with all the knowledge about your place, but you should be willing to become an expert in what's going on there - the local legends, the sports teams, the businesses, and the in-jokes.

Big media misses what makes your town special. We don't.

Beacon (from Brickworks Media Lab) is a new creator-led media brand with video and newsletter channels. We focus on positive, lifestyle content that builds pride in place and brings people together.

We're authentically local. Our editors are rooted in the places we're based, with content that connects directly with the audiences around them, in the formats they love, on the platforms they're already on. We have already launched in 4 towns and we have an exciting roadmap ahead of us and big plans.

£32,000 pro rata (£12,800 actual) / 2 days a week
