Job Summary: As a Live-In Carer, you will provide high-quality, personalised care and support to clients in their own homes. You will live with the client and assist with daily activities, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. This role requires a compassionate individual with excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to improving the lives of others. Main aims of the post:
- Provide personal care, including bathing and dressing with dignity and respect.
- To support children, young adults and adults with a wide range of care and support needs
- Assist with mobility and transfers, using appropriate equipment as needed.
- Administer medication as prescribed.
- Prepare and serve meals, considering dietary requirements.
- Perform light housekeeping duties, including cleaning and laundry.
- Offer companionship and emotional support to clients.
- Assist with shopping, errands, and appointments.
- Maintain accurate records of care on our online system report any changes in the client's condition.
- Communicate effectively with clients, their families, and healthcare professionals.
- Ensure the client's home environment is safe and comfortable., Below is Crossroads Direct guidance for live in care and the levels that staff will be expected to support to: Level 1 Clients - Domestic and Social Assistance To ensure that the support required, as directed in the care plan are delivered in a person-centred manner that promotes dignity, respect and independence:
- To assist clients who need help with domestic duties such as dusting, vacuuming, bed making, laundry and ironing
- To assist with household duties such as menu planning, meal preparation for clients and their visitors, looking after household pets (feeding), household plants etc.
- To assist clients with financial matters and money management including shopping, pension collection, payment of bills on behalf of the clients etc
- To assist clients with correspondence, arrangements for outings and visitors
- Driving duties and assisting the clients in using public transport
- Attending social outings with clients such as places of worship, regular clubs, visiting family, friends etc
- Assisting the clients to fulfil activities of daily living, eg. working, leisure and education. Level 2 Clients - Domestic and Personal Care - to include all tasks from level 1 To ensure that the support required, as directed in the care plan are delivered in a person-centred manner that promotes dignity, respect and independence:
- To assist clients who need help with getting up in the morning, dressing, undressing etc
- To assist clients who need support with aspects of their personal care help with washing, bathing, showering, hair care, shaving, oral hygiene etc
- To assist clients with toilet functions - ie. using the toilet or commode, emptying and cleansing the commode
- To assist the clients with prescribed medication only - no homely remedies unless risk assessed and approved by Care Operations Manager
- To support clients with nutrition and hydration, which includes physically supporting with food & drink intake To assist clients with mobilising and transferring To give support to the family and other carers To assist in looking after pets e.g. feeding and walking. Level 3 Clients - Complex Care - to include all actions from level 1 & 2 To ensure that the support required, as directed in the care plan are delivered in a person-centred manner that promotes dignity, respect and independence:
- Positive Behaviour Support
- Peg Feeding
- Stoma Care
- Epilepsy - that requires emergency medication administering. General:
- Remain committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of adults with care and support needs.
- Work at all times within the philosophy and policies of Crossroads Care.
- Comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and with Crossroads Care Surrey's Health & Safety policy, paying particular attention to the reporting of dangerous situations.
- Respect the personal choice and lifestyles of colleagues, carers, and people with care needs, ensuring that Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles are applied at all times.
- Comply with the Code of Conduct.
- Undertake any other duties that may be considered commensurate with the level of the post and that are set out in the care plan.
- Previous experience in a support role, preferably as a live-in carer.
- Relevant qualifications in health and social care (e.g., NVQ Level 2 or 3). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Flexibility to adapt to the client's needs and preferences.
- Valid driver's license (preferred but not essential).
- Enhanced DBS check.
