Full Job Description
- School runs - you will go with her to drop the children off in the morning and collect them in the afternoon.
- Companionship through the day - conversation, errands, appointments and keeping her company at home.
- Sharing the household load - cooking, cleaning and shopping alongside her, not instead of her.
- Seizure support - there are clear epilepsy plans in place, and you will be trained to follow them. In most cases, that means calling emergency services and then taking care of the children while she is supported.
- Afterwards - post-seizure care matters as much as the seizure itself. Medication prompting, food and fluids, personal care if needed, and giving her space to recover safely and with dignity.
- The children - you are not a nanny, and you are not there to parent them. She does that. But you will be a familiar, trusted adult in their home, and you will step in with them if she is unwell.
Willing to be trained in emergency rescue medication, for example, buccal midazolam. Full training is provided, and no prior experience is needed. - Experience working in family homes with children, and strong safeguarding awareness.
- A calm, patient communicator, able to talk someone through something step by step when they need it.
- Confident with cooking, cleaning and shopping as part of the role.
- Able to commit to a live-in rota of one week on and one week off, Monday to Monday, in Bristol.
- Right to work in the UK, plus an Enhanced DBS covering both the children's and adults' barred lists, references and ID. Desirable
- Epilepsy experience - recognising seizure types, first aid, post-seizure care and when to escalate.
- Experience supporting a parent with their own childcare routines.
- Awareness of falls risk and safe mobility support.
- Mental health awareness and a trauma-informed approach.
- A full UK driving licence - helpful, but not essential.
- Experience supporting people to get out to appointments and activities. And the part that matters most You will fit here if you are observant without hovering, proactive without taking over, and able to be professional and part of the family at the same time. She wants someone who respects her privacy, treats her as the capable adult she is, and is completely unflappable on the days when things go wrong.
- £825 per week, PAYE.
- One week on, one week off - a proper half of your life back, every fortnight.
- A long-term placement with one family, not constant reassignment.
- Full epilepsy and rescue medication training, paid.
- Funded qualifications including the Care Certificate and NVQ Levels 2 and 3.
- Your own private room in the family home.
- 24-hour on-call support from a team who actually answer the phone.
- A £500 referral bonus for every friend you refer. Terms and conditions apply.
- Free DBS. Terms and conditions apply.
This one isn't a typical care role, and we would rather be upfront about that from the start. Our client is a woman in her thirties. She is a mum; she runs her own household, and she does not need someone to do things for her. What she needs is someone alongside her, because she has epilepsy and seizures can come without warning. Most days, nothing happens. You will do the school run together, have a coffee, chat, get the shopping in and pick the children up again. Some weeks there are no seizures at all. Other weeks there are several. Your job is to be the calm, capable person in the room when one happens, and good company when one does not. If you read that and think you could do it well, we would like to hear from you., We are a family-run provider with over 20 years' experience and a Good CQC rating. We are small enough that you will not be a payroll number, and established enough that you will be properly supported - especially in a placement like this one.
