Full Job Description
National Highways has an exciting opportunity within the East region for a Lighting Engineer, working with specialists and helping to improve the National Highway infrastructure and drive customer safety. As an Engineer you will be responsible for delivering schemes, using your technical and stakeholder skills to help shape and coordinate the identification of asset needs and development of lighting schemes to defined asset policies and standards. This position will be based in Bedford, Cambridge or Ipswich with a balance of remote and office-based work. Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.
- The development of lighting improvement schemes and/or renewals, including the compiling of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability and costs.
- Assisting with the collation, identification and evaluation of asset data to develop early solutions, to agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
- Identifying, preparing briefs and managing delivery of survey works that support the improvement and/or renewal of assets.
- Contributing to the regions asset led forward programme and initial scheme development.
- Providing technical support to Project Managers by assisting with materials approvals, vetting of contractors' compliance, inspection support on site, and reviewing health and safety files.
Degree or HND in relevant discipline and or appropriate experience. - Knowledge of Confirm, CMS (Central management Systems) or similar highway asset management systems.
- Demonstrate an understanding of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges standards and its application to lighting asset maintenance on the highways network.
- Experience in AutoCAD or Lighting Reality.
- Experience in relevant construction and delivery methods and knowledge of CDM 2015.
