Full Job Description
Exeter School is the leading co-educational day school in the South West, educating over 1,000 pupils aged 3-18. The school is now seeking to appoint a part-time (2 days per week) Library Assistant on a fixed-term contract until August 2027 to join our school, a school of great character.
Starting in September 2026, we are seeking an enthusiastic, confident and approachable individual with a passion for reading to join our team. This role is particularly suited to someone who enjoys working independently and building positive relationships with young people.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the daily supervision and smooth running of the senior school library on the two days when the Librarian is not on site. The postholder will be responsible for maintaining a calm, purposeful and welcoming environment for pupils aged 11-18, as well as managing the day-to-day delivery of library services and undertaking administrative and clerical duties connected with the library.
Competent and confident use of IT is essential, ideally including basic skills and experience with PowerPoint and Canva.
Specific qualifications, experience and/or training should be made clear on your application and all will be advantageous in the application process. As important, however, is the desire to deliver outstanding support to the librarian. The school is willing to provide access to training courses for the successful candidate.
This is a fixed-term, term-time only position, working 16 hours per week across Monday and Wednesday, from 8:30am to 5:30pm.
Note on Sponsorship: We regret to inform you that, we are unable to offer sponsorship for work authorisation for this role. Therefore, candidates must possess valid authorisation to work in the UK without requiring visa sponsorship.
The role offers a full-time equivalent salary of £25,896, pro rata to 2 days per week, alongside generous benefits including an employer pension contribution, free school lunch during term time, free on-site parking, and use of the indoor swimming pool and fitness suite.
