Library Assistant | South Ribble | Salary £25,185 - £25,989 Per Annum Pro Rata| Permanent | Part Time | Various Hours Are you passionate about reading and enjoy helping others? We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer focussed and digitally confident individual to join our library teams. Lancashire Libraries are a vital service that provide welcoming, inclusive spaces where people of all ages can connect, learn and feel safe. What you'll be doing: As a Library Assistant, you'll support the delivery of a high-quality library and information service. This includes:
- Assisting customers with accessing digital resources and information.
- Supporting in the planning and delivery of events (e.g. author events, class visits
- Engaging with customers to promote reading for pleasure You will be appointed to a library base(s), but there will be an expectation that you will work at other libraries as required. Hours of work are listed against the available post and are a set working pattern over two weeks, please see the rota attachment at the bottom of the advert. These hours cannot be changed. The posts available are:
- Bamber Bridge Library - 18hpw
- Leyland Library - 7hpw
Our ideal person will be welcoming and friendly, have a love for reading and be passionate about sharing this. You will have excellent communication and digital skills, be able to work with a range of stakeholders and be able to deliver a customer focused service.

Local Government Reorganisation The Government has confirmed that local government across Lancashire will be reorganised, with the current 15 councils being replaced by four new unitary councils covering North, South, East and West Lancashire from April 2028. If you are successful in your application, you will initially join Lancashire County Council. However, as part of the planned transition, your employment will transfer to one of the new unitary councils from April 2028, subject to the implementation of the reorganisation and relevant employment legislation. Throughout this period, our focus remains on delivering excellent services to our communities.
