Full Job Description

An Opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice to join the Tonbridge District Libraries team in the Libraries, Registrations and Archives Division. A Kent County Council Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to earn a salary and gain a real qualification whilst gaining valuable workplace skills and experience. This is a great opportunity to gain a level 2 qualification in Customer Service whilst working for a large, diverse, rapidly changing organisation. The work of the library service is hugely rewarding and every day the front of house teams make a difference to the lives of their customers and local communities. Libraries have a lot more to offer than just books; with reading groups, talks and exhibitions there are activities for every age group - from Baby Rhyme Time to internet classes for older people. To deliver all this, we need the right people serving our customers. Prior library experience isn't essential - it's much more important that you're friendly, outgoing and approachable. If you enjoy working as part of a team and are passionate about delivering great customer service to the local community, we would love to hear from you. As a library and archives apprentice your work will cover all aspects of work within a library; assisting customers with their enquiries, maintaining the tidiness of the library, organising and promoting events and activities taking place at the library, using ICT systems to book appointments and maintain records. 31 hours per week are worked across a range of hours including every Saturday and you may be required to undertake periods of lone working, as well as working at other locations across the Tonbridge Library district. As a Kent County Council employee you will enjoy the following great benefits:

  • 214.6 hours annual leave (equivalent of 29 days), rising to 222 hours (equivalent of 30 days) after 5 years service, plus bank holidays.

    Competitive salary.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Opportunities for training and professional development.
  • A wide range of health and wellbeing support.
  • Good work/life balance.
  • Access to Kent Rewards scheme, with discounts and cashback from hundreds of companies.
