Full Job Description
The Lecturer in Photography will contribute to the delivery, development, andleadership of teaching across the BA Photography programme and associatedphotography modules on BA Media & Communications and other programmes withinthe School. The postholder will support a critically engaged, practice-led and researchinformedcurriculum that reflects Goldsmiths' reputation for experimental,interdisciplinary, and socially engaged photographic practice. The role emphasisesteaching excellence, curriculum innovation, and pedagogic scholarship within acritically engaged, practice-led context., Teaching & Learning
- Design, deliver, and assess teaching across undergraduate photography modules, including: o Studio-based practice teaching o Critical and contextual studies o Technical workshops (digital, analogue, expanded approaches)
- Contribute extensively to teaching on the BA Photography programme, including lectures, seminars, critiques, and tutorials.
- Teach across standalone photography modules, including to interdisciplinary or non-specialist cohorts.
- Supervise undergraduate dissertations and final-year practice-based projects.
- Provide high-quality, timely, and constructive feedback in line with institutional policies.
- Foster an inclusive, accessible, and student-centred learning environment. Curriculum Development & Pedagogic Innovation
- Take a leading role in the development and enhancement of the photography curriculum, ensuring it is: o Experimentally driven and critically rigorous o Inclusive of diverse practices and global perspectives o Responsive to contemporary developments in photography and visual culture
- Develop new modules, short courses, or workshops (e.g. expanded photography, digital imaging, AI, cross-media practice).
- Innovate in teaching methods, including studio pedagogy, critique formats, and assessment strategies.
- Contribute to programme review, validation, and quality enhancement processes. Scholarship of Teaching & Learning
- Engage in scholarship related to teaching and learning, including: o Developing and evaluating pedagogic approaches o Disseminating teaching practices through publications, conferences, or workshops
- Maintain a professional profile in photography or related practices where appropriate, informing teaching.
- Contribute to internal and external conversations on art and design pedagogy. Student Support
- Act as a personal tutor, providing academic and pastoral guidance.
- Support students' professional development, including portfolio development, exhibitions, and career pathways.
- Contribute to student recruitment, open days, and outreach activities. Administration & Academic Leadership
- Undertake administrative responsibilities, including module coordination.
- Contribute to programme leadership (e.g. year coordination, admissions, assessment boards).
- Participate in departmental committees and working groups.

Postgraduate qualification (MA or equivalent) in Photography or a related A, C, I discipline., Experience of curriculum design and pedagogic innovation. A, I Teaching qualification, Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) or A, I, C willingness to obtain Essential Criteria 2 - Experience Teaching experience in higher education or equivalent. A, I, R Evidence of teaching excellence and effective student engagement. A, I, R Ability to teach across analogue, digital, and expanded photographic approaches. A, I, R Desirable Criteria 2 - Experience Engagement with scholarship of teaching and learning (e.g. publications, A, I conference presentations). Practice-based experience in photography or related fields. A, I Essential Criteria 3 - Knowledge Commitment to inclusive pedagogy and student-centred learning. Thepreservation of across/inter-disciplinary diversity and methodological pluralism isimportant for the Department's mission for politically engaged research that is criticaland creative and has impact beyond the academy.Its research and teaching spans a wide range of topics and modes of enquiry - fromphilosophical studies of technology and human life to sociological investigations ofmedia production and use; from issues of cultural identities, embodiment andbecoming to feminist, queer theory and critical race, postcolonial and decolonialstudies; from global screen studies and transnational investigations of media andculture to critical (media) ecologies and environmental humanities; from politicaleconomic studies of news media and journalism, power, policy and politics toanthropological studies of media as social activism and sociological studies ofcreative labour in the world of fashion and art.
