Full Job Description

The University of Westminster is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative Lecturer in Creative Writing to join our dynamic School of Humanities on a 0.3 FTE basis. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a thriving Creative Writing provision at a university committed to inclusive teaching, student success, and public engagement. Based in the heart of London, you will join a vibrant academic community and help deliver an intellectually ambitious curriculum that inspires students to develop as imaginative, critically engaged, and confident writers. Working alongside colleagues with expertise across poetry, drama, publishing, and the creative industries, you will contribute to an inclusive learning environment that values experimentation, collaboration, and authentic engagement with London's rich cultural landscape. You will contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate Creative and Professional Writing programmes, designing and delivering engaging, research-informed teaching and assessment. We are particularly interested in candidates with a specialism in prose and/or novel writing, as the role will involve contributing to UG fiction modules and supervising final year fiction projects (ranging across a variety of genres, including fantasy, literary, young adult popular, and possibly including digital storytelling and game writing). The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to inclusive pedagogy, decolonisation, and enhancing the student experience, alongside the ability to foster critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and confident participation in literary debate. You will contribute to curriculum development, student support, and wider academic life within the School. You will hold a degree and postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline and have experience of successful teaching and scholarship in Creative Writing or a related field. A teaching qualification (or willingness to obtain one) and HEA Fellowship, or willingness to work towards this, are expected. At Westminster, diversity is one of our greatest strengths. We are committed to creating a stimulating, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where staff and students can thrive. If you are passionate about literature, innovative teaching, and widening participation in higher education, we would love to hear from you.

  • This post is part-time and permanent, 10.5 working hours per week. The salary stated above is the pro-rata amount, the full time salary would be £47,732 - £52,867 per annum (incl. LWA).
