Full Job Description

This post represents a unique opportunity to lead teaching across one module (part-time) or two modules (full-time) within the Foundation Certificate in Applied Health. The post holder will lead any two modules from the following:

  • Biology;
  • Physics & Chemistry;
  • Applied Health Sciences; and
  • Innovation in Community Healthcare (capstone project).
  • These modules introduce students to the scientific and applied knowledge required for further study of, and real-world engagement with, contextual health challenges. Applicants with specific experience in these areas should clearly state it on their application. This fixed term, full-time position will require you to design and deliver weekly live webinars, manage assessment and feedback, as well as other administrative duties commensurate with the role of Module Leader. In addition, you will be responsible for a cohort of personal tutees beyond your own module(s), as well as supervising several students' capstone projects as the culmination of the programme. Delivered fully online, the programme is the flagship educational pillar of the Afe Babalola Centre for Transnational Education. You will be a key member of a passionate academic team, delivering the programme to talented but underserved young people across Sub-Saharan Africa. Our collective mission is to enable these young people, including those displaced by conflict or living in remote rural areas, to transition to higher education or employment through the power of distance learning. To meet this extraordinary challenge, we are looking for an educator who shares our commitment to social justice and is willing to go the extra mile for our students. You will be a qualified teacher or academic in a relevant science or health-related field, with experience of delivering online learning. You may be working at a university, school or a further education college, designing and delivering learning at level 3. We welcome applications from candidates who may wish to discuss flexible ways of contributing to the programme. While the role is advertised on a full-time basis, we are open to considering part-time working arrangements for suitable candidates. In addition, a part-time Module Leader role could be combined with a part-time Senior Tutor role [link] to make up a full-time working arrangement.

    To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience, 1. Postgraduate degree in relevant discipline, for example Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Health Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, Public Health, or a related field. 2. A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, PgCert in Academic Practice, or equivalent). 3. Significant experience of teaching relevant science or health subjects at Level 3, including courses preparing students for undergraduate study (e.g. Foundation programmes, A-levels, International Baccalaureate, BTEC or equivalent). 4. Experience of designing and delivering inclusive and engaging online or blended learning, including the use of virtual learning environments (e.g. Moodle) and live webinar platforms. 5. Experience of assessment design, marking and feedback, with a strong understanding of academic standards and quality assurance processes. 6. Ability to provide effective academic and pastoral support to students, including personal tutoring, with sensitivity to the challenges faced by learners in under-resourced or complex circumstances. 7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within an academic team and engage effectively with international partners. 8. A clear commitment to social justice and improving educational outcomes for underserved learners., 1. Experience of teaching or working within transnational education (TNE) contexts, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. 2. Experience of leading a module or programme of study. 3. PhD in a relevant field, completed or in progress.4. Advance HE Fellowship/ Senior Fellowship

    The Afe Babalola Centre for Transnational Education is committed to expanding access to world-class learning opportunities across Sub-Saharan Africa. Established through the generosity of visionary philanthropist Aare Afe Babalola and supported by the academic excellence of King's College London, the Centre collaborates with universities and organisations across the continent to co-create flexible, high-quality programmes that meet learners' needs wherever they are. Rooted in the belief that education should be shaped by those it serves, the Centre champions a model of transnational education that is grounded in local contexts, led by African expertise and designed to unlock opportunity at scale. By training educators and creating diverse and recognised learning pathways, we help young people across Africa develop the skills, confidence and mindset to become leaders, innovators and changemakers in their communities.
