Full Job Description
We are seeking a supportive, proactive and student-focused Learning Support Assistant to help learners with a range of additional learning needs achieve their educational goals. Working closely with Additional Learning Support and curriculum colleagues, you will provide individual and group support both inside and outside the classroom. You will agree appropriate support plans with learners, monitor their progress and work with teaching staff to develop strategies that promote participation, achievement and progression. You will help learners develop their confidence, independence, social skills, organisation and time-management skills. You will also encourage attendance, follow up non-attendance promptly and provide appropriate guidance to support learners in returning to their studies. The role requires accurate record keeping, regular communication with learners, colleagues and, where appropriate, parents or carers. You will also remain alert to any safeguarding or welfare concerns and ensure these are escalated in line with College policies and procedures.
You will be educated to Level 3 or equivalent and have experience of working face-to-face with students in a busy, student-focused environment. You will have an understanding of the Further and Adult Education sector and the barriers that some individuals may face when accessing education. You will be able to build positive and constructive relationships with learners while adapting your approach to meet their individual needs. You will be organised, approachable and confident working collaboratively with colleagues across the College. Strong IT skills, including experience of Microsoft Office, and the ability to maintain accurate records are also essential. You will share Morley College London's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and understand the importance of delivering high-quality student support. You will also demonstrate a clear commitment to safeguarding, Prevent, health and safety, and creating an environment in which the welfare of children and vulnerable adults is paramount. Experience of supporting individuals with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, dyslexia, mental health needs or ADHD, would be desirable.
Established in 1889, and with our roots stretching back even further, Morley College London is one of the country's oldest and largest specialist providers of adult education. - A busy events calendar, offering you the chance to attend regular Morley creative exhibitions, student awards, dances, concerts and more
- A lovely work environment, surrounded by creative arts, music and friendly, helpful colleagues
