Full Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for Learning and Skills Assistants to join our college community as they support across all our study programmes in Health, Education and Care. The ideal candidate will be an inspiring, innovative and team-focussed individual with a real desire to create maximum impact and will likely have experience in Health, Social Care, Early Years or Assisting Teaching who would like the opportunity to develop the next generation of health, social care and education practitioners.
About your role:
The Learning and Skills Assistant for Health, Education and Care is a new role in the department, and the successful candidates will develop this role to support programmes from Level 1 up to degree level. Working with the departments Programme Managers and Lecturers, you will contribute to the quality of curriculum provision and learner experience. You will build relationships with those in the department and colleagues in the wider college community.
We are looking for someone with some real-world experience in any of the subject areas around Health, Social Care, Early Years or Assisting Teaching. As one of our department Learning and Skills Assistants, you will work closely with teaching teams and ensure students gain the confidence and skills required to succeed, link theory to practice and contribute to their personal and professional growth. This will involve primarily working with our 16-19 learners from Level 1 to Level 3/T Level. Depending on your background and skillset, your responsibilities could include:
Preparing and organising practical learning resources and spaces for learning - including the RealCare babies, simulated ward and immersive room (training provided).
Oversight of resources inventory, purchasing and maintenance schedules liaising with IT, Facilities and external suppliers.
In-class support for lecturing staff - helping with practical learning sessions, skills and scenario-based learning, as well as with the practical exams. Helping manage behaviours when needed.
Delivering skills workshops and practice sessions for T Level Health, Early Years and other learners.
Supporting learners to be ready for placement and other industry related enrichment and accompanying groups on trips and visits.
A desire to help support our First Aid and Moving and Handling training will also be welcomed.
Supervising independent learning of small groups or occasional whole class supervision with pre-prepared activities when the teacher is absent - planned or unplanned.
Delivery of exam invigilation when required.
We have planned a varied curriculum from September with a range of new courses for 16-19 learners including the L2 Supporting Healthcare Technical Diploma, L2 Supporting Teaching and Learning, the L3 Technical Occupational Diploma in Social Care, AAQ in Mental Health as well as the Health, Early Years Education and Teaching Assistant T Levels. This is in addition to our Level 1 courses in Health and Social Care, Wellbeing and Caring for Children.
