Learner Industry Placement Officer


Location: Newcastle College


Salary: £26,878 - £32,291 pro rata


Number of posts: 1 post - 18+ hours (permanent), 1 post - 37 hours (temporary, 12 months maternity cover)

About the Group


The group is currently home to a population of over 6,500 full-time students with around 2,000 adult learners and students on higher education programmes. We have over 1,500 apprentices working with more than 850 individual employers. Our Sixth Form provision has a reputation for high academic achievement and excellence.


Role Overview


This exciting opportunity involves joining our expanding Employer Partnerships and Work Placement team. The role will involve coordinating and managing learner placements, ensuring students are matched to appropriate placement opportunities provided through the Employer Partnership Team. The successful candidate will support learners throughout their placement journey, including placement preparation, monitoring, and ongoing learner support, while maintaining effective working relationships with employers, curriculum teams, and external partners.


Candidate Requirements



  • Hold a relevant qualification

  • Substantial experience of working with young people, employers, or within an education, employability, or learner support environment

  • Hold English & Maths GCSE or equivalent

  • Effective communicator

  • Strong administrative skills, well-organised, and able to keep accurate records

  • Hold a current driving licence and have use of a car

  • IT literate with experience in MS Office software and databases


Main Duties and Responsibilities



  • Coordinate and manage student placements, ensuring learners are matched to appropriate opportunities

  • Act as the main point of contact for learners throughout the placement process, providing ongoing support and guidance

  • Ensure a minimum of 3 workplace observations for T Level learners are completed across the placement duration, alongside assessment of diaries and workbooks

  • Ensure all placement documentation is completed accurately and timely, maintaining comprehensive records on systems such as Grofar

  • Monitor learner attendance and progress on placement, addressing issues promptly

  • Support learners in completing pre-placement requirements (e.g., DBS checks, care certificates, CSCS cards, food hygiene) and ensure they receive a comprehensive induction from both the College and the employer

To ensure learners are fully prepared for placement by supporting the completion of all pre-placement requirements (e.g. DBS checks, care certificates, CSCS cards, food hygiene) and ensuring they receive a comprehensive induction from both the College and the employer.
