King James Academy is seeking to appoint an exceptional Lead Practitioner of English to provide outstanding pedagogical leadership and help drive consistently high-quality teaching and learning across the department and wider academy.
This is an exciting opportunity for an expert English practitioner who is passionate about improving classroom practice, developing colleagues, and securing excellent outcomes for all pupils.
The Role
- The Lead Practitioner (English) will:
- Model consistently exceptional classroom practice, serving as a role model for colleagues.
- Lead high-impact, research-informed professional development in English.
- Coach, mentor and support teachers at all career stages to refine and improve practice.
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Department and Senior Leaders to strengthen curriculum, pedagogy and assessment.
- Secure measurable improvements in teaching quality, consistency, and pupil outcomes.
- Play a key role in wider academy CPD and cross-phase transition, including KS2-KS3.
This is not a middle leadership or line-management post, but a senior pedagogical role with significant influence over teaching and learning.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Be an outstanding teacher of English with a proven track record of impact.
- Demonstrate deep subject knowledge and expert understanding of how pupils learn.
- Have credibility and influence with colleagues through excellence in practice.
- Be skilled in coaching, modelling, and supporting others to improve.
- Be committed to evidence-informed practice and continuous professional learning.
- Share our high expectations, values, and commitment to inclusion and equity.
