Full Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic senior nurse to join our leadership team as Lead Nurse for Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a pivotal Band 8b leadership role, providing strategic, professional and operational leadership across a diverse and high-performing gynaecology and early pregnancy service spanning both Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital. The service delivers a comprehensive range of specialist care including early pregnancy and acute gynaecology, oncology, colposcopy, fertility, endometriosis, menopause and gender services.
The post holder will play a key role in driving high-quality, patient-centred care, leading service improvement, and ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and efficient services aligned to Trust priorities. You will work in close partnership with multidisciplinary teams, influencing service development, workforce strategy, and quality improvement across the division.
This role requires an inspirational leader who can foster a positive, inclusive culture, champion patient experience and ensure services continue to meet national standards and deliver excellent outcomes for women and families., + Provide visible, compassionate and effective leadership to nursing teams across gynaecology and early pregnancy services, ensuring delivery of safe, high-quality care
+ Lead and deliver strategic service development, quality improvement programmes and transformation initiatives across inpatient and outpatient services
+ Take responsibility for workforce planning, skill mix optimisation, and staff development, ensuring a highly skilled, motivated and supported workforce
+ Ensure compliance with national standards, regulatory requirements (including CQC), and key performance targets, including cancer pathways and diagnostic standards
+ Lead on governance, risk management, incident investigation and learning, promoting a culture of safety, openness and continuous improvement
+ Work collaboratively with clinical, operational and corporate colleagues to ensure effective service delivery and optimal patient flow across pathways
+ Manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring best value and supporting delivery of financial and efficiency targets
+ Develop and implement clinical policies, guidelines and care pathways aligned to evidence-based practice and national guidance
+ Act as an expert practitioner and professional role model, providing advice, supervision and support to staff and contributing to education and training
+ Build strong partnerships with patients, families and external stakeholders to co-design services and improve patient experience, The Lead Nurse for Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy holds overall responsibility for the professional nursing leadership, operational delivery, and continuous development of services across both hospital sites. The role encompasses oversight of inpatient, outpatient and specialist services, ensuring care is delivered in line with best practice, national guidance and Trust priorities.
You will lead on the development and implementation of innovative models of care, driving improvements in quality, safety, patient experience and outcomes. This includes analysing complex performance, workforce and patient feedback data to inform service redesign and deliver measurable improvements.
The post holder will work collaboratively across organisational boundaries, building strong multidisciplinary and external partnerships to enhance integrated pathways of care. You will also be responsible for embedding a strong governance framework, ensuring robust risk management, compliance, and learning from incidents and complaints to continuously improve services.
A key element of the role is developing and supporting teams, fostering a culture of inclusion, accountability and continuous professional development.
