About the roleA senior position working alongside the Heads of Homepage, editing The Telegraph's award-winning Homepage and App, www.telegraph.co.ukWorking across a seven-day rota, this role will help lead the team to ensure The Telegraph's homepage and app is driving the news agenda, as well as presenting the best content from across the newsroom.The candidate should have experience of working in an editor role on a national title with strong knowledge of digital publishing.This is a 12 month fixed-term contract position, ideally starting in September 2026.Key responsibilitiesPresent stories, in liaison with the on-duty Homepage and App Editor, in the most compelling way on the Telegraph homepage and appPlan the homepage and app in a strategic way, presenting the best stories and live eventsEnsure the presentation of the homepage and app reflects the interests of our subscribers and potential subscribers and is in line with the tone and consistency expected of the Telegraph brand.Work
with the pictures desk and design team to select the right images and produce brilliant, innovative illustrations for the homepage.Send lively and eye-catching notifications for breaking stories and top-performing features to the Telegraph app and other platforms that host our content.Send Breaking News emails when appropriate.Liaise regularly with other desks about their forthcoming content and how best to promote and display it.Monitor analytics to understand what is performing well and what could be improved.Stand in for the editor/deputy homepage editor when required, including attending daily conferences.Act as a super-user for all digital tools available to Telegraph journalists and digital publishing in general.Help to train and educate junior members of the homepage team and others across the newsroom on all things digital, both formally and informally.Key skillsEssential: Experience with a respected website, national or regional newspaper or broadcaster - particularly within a
breaking news environment.Sound news and picture judgement and understanding of the news agenda.Be able to lead a team confidently and articulate what you need from other departments in an authoritative manner.Excellent attention to detail.Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure across many different areas at once.Desirable: An understanding of the Telegraph audience and subscription model.Ability to write headlines with a variety of tones.Expertise in digital publishing.Understand what a good mix of stories looks like on the Telegraph App and desktop.Our benefitsThe nature of our industry means life at the Telegraph Media Group is fast-paced, demanding, and interesting.
