Lead Cost Engineer

A primary support function to the business, providing target costs for all the new and existing vehicle projects utilizing expertise, logic & a robust data driven approach.,

• Conducting competitor benchmarking studies.
• Participating in Tear Down studies and costing exercises on key commodities or components.
• Creation of "Should Costs" for all responsible products for piece & tooling, to support cost target setting activities.
• Supporting Engineering to refine designs with a more cost-effective manufacturing process.
• "Should Cost" to Quote evaluation - Where are the differences between the target and the quotation and why?
• Supporting the Procurement Department, on technical challenges, when discussing quotes with the vendors.
• Maintaining data accuracy during the product development and revising the "Should Cost" in-line with change/maturity.
  
  Proven experience of Cost Engineering experience
• Good level of IT skills, especially in the Microsoft Office, advanced Excel skills would be advantageous.
• Quality Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering background.
• Broad Engineering & Manufacturing knowledge inclusive of component design.
• Solid understanding of a Vehicle architecture & its subsequent systems.
• Excellent problem analytical & problem-solving skills.
• Able to use CAD Reviewer Software - Siemens Teamcenter/VIS Mockup.
• Must have the ability to read a technical drawing.
• Strong financial acumen.
• Teamwork mindset essential.
The most important part of this role is having in-depth manufacturing knowledge on how things are manufactured & finished, the associated process capability for each step and the sequential process flow applicable. The second most important thing is the attitude and willingness to learn and apply the knowledge in a new way. Preferred experience
• Knowledge of TcPCM Piece/Tooling system and Schmale Tooling system
• Previous Cost Engineering experience or equivalent
• Ability to understand a cost structure - QAF (Quotation Analysis Form).
• Technical and commercial awareness of bottom-up costing.
• Quality engineering inclusive of PPAP
• TVM or cost reduction engineering
• Product design
• PPAP understanding of all elements.
Essential education/ Qualifications Formal Apprenticeship in a relevant manufacturing sector i.e. Sheet metal, Fabrication, Machining, Electronics etc.
• City & Guilds (or equivalent)
• GNVQ (or equivalent)
• HNC (or equivalent)
Preferred education/ qualifications
• Engineering Degree BSc/MSc BEng/MEng, Teamwork mindset essential
