Introduction
Castings PLC is offering an exciting Technical Support Apprenticeship. As an apprentice you will work within the foundry alongside team leaders and supervisors.
About the Employer
Castings P.L.C. is a market leading iron casting and machining group based in the UK, supplying both the domestic and export markets. The original foundry operation dates back to 1835 and today the group comprises of three trading businesses, employing over 1,000 people in the UK. The group operates two iron foundries – Castings P.L.C. (Brownhills, West Midlands) and William Lee Limited (Dronfield, Derbyshire) – together with the CNC Speedwell Limited machining operation which is also based in Brownhills. The group produces Ductile iron, SG iron, Austempered ductile iron (ADI), SiMo and Ni-resist castings up to 45kg in weight. Our four Disamatic moulding machines and three horizontal green sand moulding machines provide a foundry capacity of 70,000 tonnes per annum. Our machining operation is invested to support the capacity requirements of the foundry customer base and also to expand general machining in alternative materials.What You'll Do
Foundry related duties:

Laboratory Technician (Iron Foundry)
Key Responsibilities
· Cut, mount, grind, and polish metal samples for microscopic examination.
· Perform hardness tests, tensile test, spectrometer analyses on Iron Samples
· Check raw materials, molten metal composition, and finished castings for defects to ensure industry compliance.
· Clean, maintain, and calibrate lab instruments like spectrometers and microscopes.
· Record test results and report issues to production and engineering teams.
Training Outcome
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship there will be a full-time position avaliable as a supervisor for the foundry section with relevant training being provided.
