We are excited to announce the opportunity to become a part of our dynamic, hard-working, and friendly Laboratory Administration team, at our laboratory in Newton Abbot. Axiom Veterinary Laboratory (part of CVS Vets) is a busy diagnostic pathology facility committed to providing top-quality clinical testing services to a large client base of veterinary practices across the country and abroad. You will be joining a friendly and supportive team responsible for accurately booking blood and other veterinary sample submissions into our system, helping ensure results are delivered promptly to veterinary practices and supporting high standards of animal welfare. You will also take incoming telephone calls, speaking to customers in a polite and professional manner. With full training and support, you'll gather key information from callers and pass enquiries to the appropriate team when needed. You must be able to remain focused and calm under pressure. Customer care is integral to our business, and so the successful candidates will have a "can do" attitude. This position does not require prior laboratory experience as comprehensive training will be provided in all procedures.,

  • Opening, checking, and recording details of newly received submissions and checking against the associated submission forms
  • Transferring information from submission forms to the laboratory information system (LIMS) accurately and efficiently
  • Numbering and racking samples and preparing them appropriately for onward movement to the relevant laboratory department(s)
  • Handling incoming telephone calls in a polite, confident and concise manner, transferring calls to relevant colleagues as appropriate
  • Making outgoing telephone calls to clients
  • Handling both internal and external emails
  • Receiving and processing results from referral laboratories
  • Contributing to the Quality system, including performing data entry checks, and seeking and recording client feedback

    Fast and precise data entry skills are essential, in addition to a keen eye for detail
  • Basic computing knowledge is required including use of Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients and staff on all levels
  • Ability to plan and organise own workload when appropriate and prioritise when necessary
  • Confident in understanding and following Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ability to work as part of a small team at laboratory level as well as with members of the wider CVS company, always maintaining a professional attitude and behaviour
  • Staff are expected to work under their own initiative for routine tasks in which they are competent, using best judgement to know when to seek advice
  • Hours will be as per terms and conditions of employment, but flexibility is required

    Salary: Starting salary will be in line with the National Minimum Wage, Five weeks' annual leave entitlement (plus bank holidays) pro rata, with one extra day per completed year of service (up to a maximum of five days)
