Full Job Description

Are you passionate about sport, fitness and helping others lead more active lives? We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Activity Leadership Level 2 Apprentice to join our Sports Development team and help deliver exciting community sports programmes across southeast and central Northumberland. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience while developing your skills in sports coaching, activity leadership and community engagement. You'll work alongside experienced sports professionals supporting weekly and holiday programmes for children, young people and adults across communities including Ashington, Newbiggin, Choppington, Cramlington, Blyth and Bedlington. Face to face training for the apprenticeship will take place monthly in Newcastle (exact location to be confirmed), and the successful candidate must be able to meet the location requirements of the role. The apprenticeship will be for 12 months, plus 2 months to complete the end point assessment (14 months in total). Interviews will be held week commencing 7th September 2026 What you'll be doing: As an Activity Leadership Apprentice, you will:

  • Support the planning and delivery of sports sessions, festivals and events.
  • Assist with leading activities and coaching sessions as your skills and confidence develop.
  • Help create inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, including under-represented groups.
  • Build positive relationships with participants, coaches, volunteers and partner organisations.
  • Set up and check sports equipment, ensuring facilities are safe, clean and welcoming.
  • Maintain attendance records and support the smooth running of sessions.
  • Promote health, safety and safeguarding at all times.
  • Contribute to helping more people become active and stay active within their local communities.
  • We're seeking someone who:

  • Is a great communicator with excellent teamwork and motivational skills.

  • Can work independently when required and manage their workload effectively.
  • Has a flexible approach to working hours and a commitment to continuous development.
  • Is committed to equality, inclusion and providing excellent customer experiences.
  • Whilst there are no specific entry requirements, the successful candidate will be required to complete initial assessments in Maths and English during onboarding.

  • Travel to other sites across Northumberland may be required.
  • Evening and weekend working will form part of a rota.
  • The role involves both indoor and outdoor activity delivery.
