An exciting opportunity of a Band 6 Junior sister/ Charge nurse position has come available within our Surgical Short Stay Unit. This will be a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of surgical innovation while gaining experience across our established same-day surgery unit and wider clinical areas. We are seeking for a flexible, motivated individual with a minimum of 3 years post-graduation experience within Surgical Division in an acute NHS setting. The person should also have excellent communication skills, demonstrable recent professional development and have mentorship/equivalent qualification, to apply for this role. Main duties of the job As a valued member of our team, you will:
- Act as the nurse-in-charge of clinical shifts, leading the nursing team in the delivery of evidence-based patient centered care, which is of a high standard.
- Develop your clinical skills across a wide range of surgical specialties, including: Robotic Surgery, Gynae-Urology, Maxillofacial, ENT, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics, and General Surgery.
- Assist Senior Sister in the management of the unit on a day to day basis by appropriate deployment, delegation and supervision of all grades of staff and monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources.

- To lead the nursing team in the provision of high quality, research based, nursing care that is patient and family focused.
- To act as a role model and expert practitioner.
- To manage the ward effectively and efficiently within allocated resources.
- To manage and facilitate the development of staff creating an effective team.
- To foster a multidisciplinary approach to patient care in line with Clinical Governance Main Duties and Responsibilities: 1 Clinical 1.1 To ensure high quality, research based, individualised patient care is maintained at all times. 1.2 To provide a problem solving approach to patient care 1.3 To ensure effective collaboration and discharge planning with all members of the multidisciplinary team and interested agencies 1.4 To act as a role model and expert practitioner at all times. 1.5 To work with Infection Control to monitor the ward environment to maintain and raise standards 1.6 To work with the Matron to ensure that clinical governance processes at ward level encompass measures to ensure the quality of the fundamental and essential aspects of care including use of Essence of Care Benchmarking. Person specification Qualifications
- Registered Nurse Part or 1 or 2
- Recent qualification or equivalent experience in acute setting
- Demonstrates professional updating of knowledge in past and proven experience
- Teaching qualification ENB 998 or City & Guilds 730 or equivalent
- First degree or working towards
- D32/33 [A1] Award Knowledge and Experience
- Experience at Band 6 or above within acute hospital setting
- Evidence of advanced sills in practice i.e. iv additives
- Knowledge of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling, clinical risk management
- Evidence of achievements in practice development and quality improvement projects
- Evidence of research based practice
- Evidence of changing practice and project management
- Proven record of managing staff and resources
- Clinical audit
- Publication Employer certification / accreditation badges You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
