Full Job Description
The post is for twelve months, with appraisal/mid-point review. Unfortunately we cannot consider applications from those who wish to take a shorter post.
Applications are encouraged for this 12-month role, due to commence its eighth year in July / August 2024. This role provides a unique opportunity for those wish to develop and utilise skills in medical education while maintaining a hands-on clinical role. Previous postholders have varied in their levels of experience but this role would suit a motivated candidate who have completed (or is due to complete) foundation training and are considering (or have completed) Core Medical Training.
This post has 2 major roles:
1. Developing, coordinating and delivering medical student education, mainly in medicine for older people. The role includes using and developing simulation skills in Geriatric Medicine or other areas as agreed with the candidate. The role includes face-to-face teaching including supervising case discussions, completing assessments, seminar teaching and leading groupwork. The successful applicant will liaise between clinicians and university staff to ensure an effective timetable for the year 4 students in the Ageing and Complex Medicine block.
2. Clinical service work and training in General/Geriatric Medicine. This is predominantly ward based and the successful applicant will be a full member of the multidisciplinary team with regular consultant-led supervision.
The successful applicant's job plan will have both an educational and a clinical component to their role. The clinical level is expected to have completed (or due to complete by the time of commencing the post) Foundation Training and be at Core Medical (ST1-2 level) or equivalent, although this role is not recognised as an official training post by the JRCPTB or Royal College of Physicians.
The fellow may wish to obtain educational qualifications of an appropriate level and CPD in the field of medical education. We will Support the successful candidate. Previous candidates have completed postgraduate qualifications in medical education such as the (PGCert) in Medical Education.
