All new entrants to the NHS will be appointed on the minimum of the pay scale in line with Terms & Conditions., This post is a part-teaching/part-clinical role, within the department of Paediatrics, with the main focus being on the delivery and development of the Newcastle Medical School Undergraduate curriculum in Child Health. It would suit an applicant who aims to pursue a career in Paediatrics and/or has a keen interest in medical education and would like to enhance their teaching skills and experience., The successful candidate will be involved in coordinating and providing the undergraduate clinical teaching programme (20 hours/week) and will undertake 20 hours/week clinical duties and professional development. This includes developing educational sessions (including simulation), timetable planning, bedside and clinical teaching, and the organization and running of the assessment process for the undergraduate students (formal clinical encounters).
The main clinical duties are to support the Paediatric department, covering neonatal community, acute Paediatric emergencies and outpatient clinics. Specialist clinics and training can be arranged according to career interests. Clinical research is an important aspect of daily practice in this unit, and so opportunities will be available to complete 'Good Clinical Practice' training to support the participation in recruitment to Trust Clinical Research Trials., This post focuses heavily on the provision of undergraduate medical education within Child Health, to facilitate the year 3 and year 5 students who rotate through the unit on an annual basis.
Within this role, good administrative and organizational skills are of importance in formulating individualized timetables for students and ensuring an equal and fair exposure to clinical sessions for each student.
Teaching opportunities will be many and varied, and an enthusiasm for education will be essential. A wide variety of clinical settings are used for teaching and training, and the post-holder would be expected to provide teaching to individuals, small groups and more formal teaching sessions in addition to being trained as a simulation training faculty member whilst in post. The post-holder would be expected to participate in student induction sessions and assessment sessions alongside Dr. Mannikar and the Clinical Teaching Fellow Paediatric ACP.
A variety of clinical sessions are provided within the job plan as per departmental requirements, and it is expected that these will provide the post-holder with valuable clinical experience as well as providing an opportunity to deliver clinical teaching.
