This is a unique opportunity providing an experienced Advanced TA Practitioner the opportunity to work 3 days per week at Exhall Grange Specialist School and 2 days per week supporting young people across Warwickshire in other educational provisions or the home through the Warwickshire Vision Support Service. About The Warwickshire Vision Support Service The Warwickshire Vision Support Service leads and manages the specialist support services on behalf of Warwickshire County Council, providing outreach support for children with visual impairments from birth to 25 years in homes, early years' settings, schools and colleges. About Exhall Grange Specialist School Exhall Grange is a 4-19 school which provides a nurturing environment and meets the needs of children and young people with social, communication and interaction difficulties including Autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, physical difficulties, sensory impairment and complex medical needs. About the role We are seeking to appoint from September 2026 a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to work with children and young people up to the age of 19 years of age with a visual impairment both in a school environment and across Warwickshire. This means that you could be working with any age group within the school from Early Years Foundation Stage to Post 16. The Exhall Grange V.I department currently consists of a qualified teacher of the visually impaired, an advanced TA practitioner, three specialist level 3 teaching assistants and two habilitation officers. Due to the increase in pupils with a visual impairment we are seeking to grow the team. The role will involve providing interventions both within class and outside of the classroom in a wide range of areas from the V.I curriculum framework.

  • Hold a recognised and relevant qualification a NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working with visually impaired students
  • Hold or be willing to work towards an advanced V.I. practitioner qualification
  • Have a minimum GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grades A-C or Grade 4-9
  • Have a good understanding of Special Educational Needs
  • Have a full UK driving licence with access to their own vehicle with business insurance
  • Have manual handling training or be willing to undertake immediate training
  • Understand and be able to work with Care Plans
  • To develop a knowledge of specialist equipment, its uses and operation and be prepared to demonstrate to other e.g. braillers, embossers
  • IT skills sufficient to use computerised technologies to provide VI resources

    The salary range for this position is £ 33,699 - £ 36,363 full time equivalent which equates to £ 25,460 - £ 27,473 per annum actual salary for 32.5 hours per week working term time plus 5 training days. Mileage is paid at a rate of 45p per mile.
