Full Job Description
As an IT Support Officer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality IT services to staff and students across the Department of Engineering Science. Working as part of a friendly and professional IT Support team, you will provide first- and second-line support for a diverse range of technologies, including Windows and Linux systems, hardware, software, AV equipment, printers, and user accounts. You will be a key member of our Service Desk, acting as the first point of contact for IT support requests, managing incidents and service requests, and always aiming to deliver excellent customer service. The role offers a varied workload, combining day-to-day technical support with opportunities to contribute to service improvements, documentation, and departmental IT projects. Based primarily across our Central Oxford and Headington sites, you will work closely with academic, research, administrative and student users, helping to ensure that IT services effectively support the Department's world-leading teaching and research activities.
You will have experience working within an IT support environment and be confident supporting Windows and Linux operating systems, Active Directory, and a range of end-user hardware and software. You will be an effective problem solver with strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to manage a varied workload while maintaining excellent service standards. With a customer-focused approach, you will enjoy helping users with differing levels of technical knowledge and will be able to communicate clearly and professionally with both technical and non-technical audiences. You will be organised, self-motivated, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. We are particularly interested in candidates who are enthusiastic about developing their technical skills and contributing to the continuous improvement of IT services. Experience within a higher education, research, or AV support environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
