Full Job Description

We are seeking a proactive, resourceful and motivated individual to join our team as an Investigations Officer. This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on our community by identifying, investigating, and helping bring empty homes and commercial premises back into use.,

  • This role will support the delivery of the council's empty property strategy and problem property action plan.
  • Identify and investigate empty residential and commercial properties across the borough.
  • Liaise with property owners, landlords, and other stakeholders to encourage voluntary occupation or sale.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases on vacant properties.
  • Work in partnership with internal departments (Council Tax, Planning, Housing, Legal) and external agencies.
  • Virtual and on-site home visits to determine eligibility for Council Tax Reduction, Housing Benefit and other discounts.
  • Produce reports to the valuation on office and track progress.
  • Monitor new build domestic and commercial sites via planning applications and carry out visits when necessary.

    Experience of working in a Revenues and Benefits environment, property investigation, Council Tax Reduction, Housing Benefit or a similar field.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage caseloads.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • A background in local government, enforcement, and housing would be advantageous.
