International Training Fellowship in Cardiology

Papworth Hospital has opportunities for doctors to broaden and develop their skills, knowledge and competencies across cardiothoracic medical and surgery. This job description provides information about the scope of clinical experience and training, educational activities and potential to participate in research and audit at one of the foremost cardiothoracic centres in the UK.

The Fellowship post in the Cardiology Unit at Papworth Hospital provides an opportunity for advanced training in a variety of advanced cardiac sub-specialties, tailored to individual needs, contingent on the vacancies within other Fellowship programmes.

The post-holder will work with the existing Consultant Cardiologist and ten Health Education East of England rotating cardiology registrars as part of the wider Cardiology Team. The post will provide experience and training in outpatient and ward based medical care to cardiology patients, as well as non-invasive imaging and interventional procedures, as required.

The post-holder will develop expertise in the agreed sub-specialty area. There will be the opportunity to develop research interests, perform audit and experience another cardiology sub-specialty interest outside transplantation.

The post-holder will have a trained educational supervisor, be mentored by the existing team with regular meetings and oversight by the whole team., All Clinical Fellows will be responsible for:

Management of patient care under the direction of the Consultants in the specialty

To have read, understand and abide by the clinical protocols in the respective specialties

Completion of accurate records, such as patients, notes, discharge summaries

Attendance at clinics, ward rounds and clinical meetings as required.

Attending and actively participating in ward rounds

Seeking advice or assistance from senior colleagues as required according to level of skills, and knowledge

Undertaking procedures as appropriate to grade and skills which will be directly or indirectly supervised

Participation in clinical audit and maintaining medical audit records

Participation in teaching to other junior medical staff, undergraduate students and non-medical staff

Participation in clinical and/or laboratory research of the unit as required by the consultant staff

Adherence to the clinical protocols of the specialty/hospital and to support developments/practices and new ways of working for the efficient and effective delivery of patient care

Participation in training activities, maintaining log/ portfolio and personal development plan. Attendance at mandatory training.
