Full Job Description
You will play an important role in supporting staff and students using our Cardiff Environmental Laboratory for Trace Element and Isotope Chemistry (CELTIC) Facility. Working closely with the CELTIC lab manager, you will help maintain stock levels, operate our acid distillation and flux fusion systems, and undertake the servicing, repair and general upkeep of equipment. You will deliver guidance and training to staff and students on their appropriate use using established guidelines.
You will also carry out safety inspections, PAT testing and assist with manual handling and Legionella control across the School.
This role would suit an individual who enjoys working with people and taking a hands-on approach to problem solving. You will be well organised, comfortable using a range of IT systems, and capable of managing a varied workload in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. A flexible and proactive approach is essential.
While some requirements are essential for this role (see "essential criteria" below), we are committed to supporting your development once in post. This includes regular one-to-one support, access to an experienced and supportive team, and opportunities for job-relevant training and professional development, including mentoring schemes.
We are excited to invite applications for a motivated and enthusiastic Laboratory Technician to join our Research Technical Team within the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

We especially welcome and encourage applications from those under-represented groups within the University workforce, such as those who identify as LGBT+, Ethnic Minority or those with disabilities. In supporting our employees to achieve a balance between their work and their personal lives, we will also consider proposals for flexible working or job share arrangements.
Applications may be submitted in Welsh, and an application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.
