Full Job Description

The Integration Architect will be instrumental in the remaining stages of the South 4 LIMS project, with responsibility for integration work necessary for the transition of Cellular Pathology and Blood Transfusion services from current IT systems to the South 4 platform. This will involve working with supplier integration specialists to enable direct and TIE-mediated connections to order comms and other clinical systems, facilitating new capabilities such as integrated reporting, and ensuring compliance with existing enterprise architecture and established technical standards. The post holder will also assist in a project to migrate system hosting from physical data centres to a cloud hosted solution, guiding and overseeing aspects of the work relevant to systems integration for OUH (and South 4 Trusts as relevant). This will include mapping existing connections and likely impact of migration, advising on testing strategies, troubleshooting where necessary, and ensuring systems are fit for purpose and clinically safe. The role has significant potential to expand into other areas as the need arises, including delivering interoperability solutions for other IT systems used by pathology such as Genetics and Transplant Immunology. The post-holder will liaise with pathology IT specialists and suppliers to gather requirements and propose options, recommending the most appropriate course of action and supporting implementation within agreed parameters of cost, time, and quality.

The successful candidate should have extensive knowledge of digital systems architecture used in healthcare and will ideally be familiar with the infrastructure and data flows currently used in pathology services across OUH and the South 4 Partnership. Technical expertise and practical experience of translating user requirements into technical implementation plans, including redesign of existing systems and establishing new interfaces are essential. Personal attributes must include strong architectural judgement and process management skills, proficiency and confidence in communication and stakeholder engagement across multiple healthcare services and locations, and the ability to work flexibility and at pace to deliver integration solutions within defined timescales.,

  • Educated to degree level or significant experience as a technical architect in the NHS at Band 7 or above
  • Experience of or large-scale IT implementation projects in an NHS environment involving a minimum of two Database Management Systems, with a high level of proficiency in one or more
  • Experience of LIMS implementation across one or more NHS Trusts
  • Extensive knowledge of OUH systems architecture, including systems used for managing diagnostic test requests and orders (EPR, GP order comms, LIMS, etc.) and other clinical IT applications used by the Trust with which these integrate
  • Demonstrable knowledge of MIRTH integration engines
  • Experience of operational pathology services and in-depth understanding of pathology IT requirements, especially those relating to systems architecture and data flows between systems
  • Articulate with well-developed communication skills to present technical information to a wide and varied audience both internally and externally
  • Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of managing change within a Health Sector environment involving legacy infrastructure, data standards, quality and governance
  • Experience of supplier management for high-value, time critical projects
