An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Diabetes & Endocrinology Directorate to join our administrative team. The role supports services across East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust sites, primarily Barbara Castle Way, Accrington PALS, and Royal Blackburn Hospital, with cross-site working required. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual who can work independently and as part of a team, with excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a commitment to confidentiality and high-quality customer care. The post holder will provide comprehensive administrative support, including managing referrals, booking and cancelling appointments, maintaining waiting lists, supporting clinic coordination, and updating patient records using systems such as Cerner and EMIS. This is a key role supporting clinical teams and service delivery, ensuring efficient patient pathways and high-quality care., The post holder will provide comprehensive administrative support to the Diabetes & Endocrinology Service, including managing referrals, booking and rescheduling appointments, maintaining accurate and up-to-date waiting lists, and supporting clinic coordination across multiple sites. Duties will include updating patient records on systems such as Cerner and EMIS, preparing clinic lists, responding to patient and GP enquiries, and ensuring effective communication across multidisciplinary teams. The role also involves supporting clinical staff by undertaking key administrative tasks, organising meetings and taking minutes, monitoring stock, and contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the service. The post holder will be expected to prioritise workload effectively, maintain strict confidentiality, and undertake additional ad hoc duties as required to meet the service's changing needs. - Please see job description and person spec for more details, The successful candidate will develop and maintain effective working relationships with administrative and clinical colleagues, contributing positively to team working and supporting service improvement initiatives. They will demonstrate professionalism at all times, ensuring excellent standards of customer care and communication, while upholding confidentiality and information governance requirements. The role also supports the use of data and information to contribute to service monitoring, performance, and ongoing development, ensuring the service continues to meet organisational standards and patient needs.
The post holder will be an integral member of the administrative team, contributing to the effective and efficient running of the service through a proactive and flexible approach. They will be expected to work across multiple sites, adapting to changing service demands and supporting the wider team to maintain continuity of service delivery. The role requires a high level of organisation, accuracy, and accountability, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.,
- Recognized educational standards i.e., GCSE 'O' Level Grade A - C, 4 - 9 or equivalent / similar level alternative qualifications in English Language and Math's
- Previous experience of EMIS, Cerner & Other department / trust systems
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Able to travel between ELHT sites
- Willingness to learn new systems and processes
- Ability to work independently and under pressure, prioritising work to meet deadlines
- Experience in meeting planning and minute taking
- RSA 2 Typing or equivalent standard - advanced keyboard skills
- Must be able to multitask whilst working in a busy office environment and dealing with frequent interruptions Desirable criteria
- Referral to Booking experience
- Knowledge of Data Protection and Caldicott guideline
- RSA III typing qualification
- Awareness of Equal Opportunity issues
- Equivalent experience in a similar role
- Winscribe digital dictation system or similar
- ECDL/CLAIT or equivalent / similar alternative quals or IT experience

- Please note that the salary advertised is for full time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.
